Poles supply Italian mafia with arms - TheNews.pl :: News from Poland

Poles supply Italian mafia with arms - TheNews.pl :: News from Poland: "In 2005, two Camorra clans – Panico and Sarno – started a brutal war on the streets of Naples, which resulted in the death of twenty people. Italian investigators established that during street fights mafia members used Skorpion machine guns smuggled from Poland.

During the investigation it turned out that wife of one of Camorra’s members, Francesco Siciliano, is originally from Poland. It was established that she had met her future husband after coming to Italy to work. Maria B. (surname withheld due to Poland’s privacy laws) introduced her husband Siciliano to Tomasz C., a Polish criminal who was hiding in Italy.

Tomasz C. organized arms transfer from Poland to Italy. Guns were hidden in coaches which transported Polish seasonal workers to Italy. Three other Poles – Janusz F., a driver, Andrzej K. and Rafal B. – were involved in smuggling. Apart from supplying arms to the Italian mafia, Poles also serviced them."

armed gang stormed two hotels in Mexico's northern economic hub of Monterrey and abducted seven people

armed gang stormed two hotels in Mexico's northern economic hub of Monterrey and abducted seven people from one of them, the Nuevo Leon state attorney general said on Wednesday.Alejandro Garza told a news conference that all those abducted were Mexicans, after Mexican media reported that a US citizen had been among the victims.
Around 30 armed men arrived at the Holiday Inn in central Monterrey in 12 vehicles in the early hours of Wednesday before abducting four guests, two receptionists and possibly a security guard, Garza said.A handcuffed person who had apparently been hit in the face led them to certain rooms from where they forced guests to leave, according to witness reports cited by Garza.
The gang also visited the Hotel Mision but did not abduct anyone from there, Garza added. The attackers used vehicles to block several roads around the hotels in central Monterrey, Mexico's third-largest city, during the raid.
Drug-related violence has intensified in Mexico's northern border areas in recent weeks. Drug gang members have blocked roads and engaged in shootouts with police around Monterrey. At least 16 people were killed in separate attacks since Tuesday in the northern state of Chihuahua, officials said, including 11 in the country's most deadly city of Ciudad Juarez.
Arizona's two US Republican senators proposed Monday sending 3,000 more US National Guard soldiers to quell violence spilling over the border between their home state and Mexico.More than 22,700 people have died in suspected drug violence since Mexican President Felipe Calderon launched a military crackdown on organized crime after taking office in late 2006.

Saginaw County gun dealer robbed of 15 hand guns and ammunition - 4/09/10 - Flint News and Saginaw News - abc12.com: "burglary at a Saginaw County gun shop has police working non stop to find the people who took them
Concern is mounting about the 15 stolen guns that are now on the street and in the wrong hands.
The robbery happened in St. Charles Township at Jerry's Gun Shop northeast of Chesaning on Amman Road.
Gerald Earl Richmond, the owner of the shop, reported the thefts Thursday. Richmond says up to 15 hand guns were stolen, along with ammunition. 'I just about a heart attack because I've been here 30 years and never did I ever have anything like this ever happen. And all they took was hand guns and ammo, and they tore my cash register all apart and took about $300-350.'
Whoever took the guns and ammo broke through the window to get in and pried the back door of the shop to get out. The alarm system was also disabled and the alarm box is missing, so that leads police to think it was someone who knew what they were doing.
'They took the burglary alarm and tore it off the wall, and I haven't found it yet. It musta went off because they took it and pulled it right off the wall and pulled the wires right out of it,' Richmond said.
The store did not have a security camera."

Mexico drug gangs turn weapons on army - latimes.com

Mexico drug gangs turn weapons on army - latimes.com: "Drug traffickers fighting to control northern Mexico have turned their guns and grenades on the Mexican army, authorities said, in an apparent escalation of warfare that played out across multiple cities in two border states.

In coordinated attacks, gunmen in armored cars and equipped with grenade launchers fought army troops this week and attempted to trap some of them in two military bases by cutting off access and blocking highways, a new tactic by Mexico's organized criminals.

In taking such aggressive action, the traffickers have shown that they are not reluctant to challenge the army head-on and that they possess good intelligence on where the army is, how it moves and when it operates.

At least 18 alleged attackers were killed and one soldier wounded in the fighting that erupted Tuesday in half a dozen towns and cities in the states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon, the army said, topping off one of the deadliest months yet in a drug war that has raged for nearly 3 1/2 years"

Ivan Garcia, 26, was convicted in February of street terrorism and attempted murder for shooting David Puga

Ivan Garcia, 26, was convicted in February of street terrorism and attempted murder for shooting David Puga after the homeowner saw him tagging a block wall on a cul-de-sac.Garcia was tied to the brutal April 2008 attack by his DNA, which was left on a discarded spray paint can near the crime scene, prosecutors said. As a result of the shooting, part of Pugh’s brain had to be removed and he was left with memory loss and a lack of motor and verbal functions, they said. Before the sentence was handed down, Puga's wife, Dorothy, told of the impact on her husband.“All I have to say to you, Ivan, is that you will suffer in jail like my husband has to suffer for the rest of his life,” she said in court, according to prosecutors. “You have not only hurt our family, but by the way I see your mother crying in the courtroom, you have hurt your family as well.”Puga and his wife were returning home from the grocery store the night of the attack. Puga went out to move a car from the street to the driveway and spotted Garcia and another man tagging a block wall by crossing out a rival gang's graffiti.Garcia then pulled out a gun and shot the 45-year-old Puga three times in the neck, arm and foot and continued to fire as Puga tried to escape by crawling back into his home, prosecutors said. After hearing the gunshots and finding her wounded husband, Puga’s wife called 911. Witnesses saw Garcia and another gang member toss the spray-paint can into a Dumpster near a convenience store. In August 2008, forensic experts matched it to Garcia’s DNA, which was in the state criminal database because he had been convicted that year of being an accessory after the fact in a gang murder. One of Puga's daughters, who was 16 at the time of the attack and whose name was not released, recalled the attack in court before Garcia was sentenced.“I will never forget the way my dad was looking at me as he lay on the driveway on his back with blood pouring out his neck,” she stated, according to prosecutors. “I was screaming out loud, 'Dad, please don’t die!'”
