Anti-Assault Rifle Agit-Prop On the Rise | The Truth About Guns

Anti-Assault Rifle Agit-Prop On the Rise | The Truth About Guns: "AK-47 rifles and other high-powered semi-automatic assault weapons were the guns of choice for street gangs back in the 1990s during the crack cocaine epidemic.
Drive-by shootings and AK-47s were synonymous in some Buffalo neighborhoods as city homicide levels reached an all-time high.
But now, more than six years after a federal ban on assault rifle sales ended, the feared weapon and similar ones appear to be regaining a foothold in local crime.
AK-47′s were the guns of choice for street gangs in the 90′s? Citation? Every study I’ve ever seen on the type of guns used in crime has concluded that handguns are, overwhelmingly, the bad guys’ firearm of choice.
Back in 2000, firearmsid.com reported that “Of all firearm-related crime reported to the survey, 86% involved handguns.” More recently, guncite.com reports that:
Assault weapons are not the weapons of choice among drug dealers, gang members or criminals in general. Assault weapons are used in about one-fifth of one percent (.20%) of all violent crimes and about one percent in gun crimes."

Youth allegedly tried to kill cop | Toronto & GTA | News | Toronto Sun: "Toronto Police officer is lucky to be alive after a gun pointed at him by a teenager misfired.
A 17-year-old allegedly tried to shoot at an officer on Saturday night while he and two men were being chased by police, said investigators.
Police, meanwhile, said gunplay is responsible for the death of one man and wounding of five others in four separate incidents during the last three days in Toronto.
The alleged incident involving the 17-year-old occurred after officers stopped to question three males near Oakwood and Earlsdale Aves. The trio fled with police in pursuit.
Officers caught one man, who allegedly was in possession of cocaine, a knife, and in violation of probation.
Police said they arrested another man after he tripped and dropped a .38-calibre revolver.
During the chase, the 17-year-old, who can not be named under the Young Criminal Justice Act, pointed a gun at an officer and pulled the trigger, said police. The gun malfunctioned."

Cheap Guns Boom In Europe :: Uncensored News For Real People

Free Internet Press :: Cheap Guns Boom In Europe :: Uncensored News For Real People: "E.U. cracks down on firearms, illegal trafficking in altered alarm guns is booming on the continent. They're cheap, easy to alter, impossible to trace - so they are becoming the criminal's weapon of choice.
At the age of 10, Massimo Tanfoglio was already packaging pistols in his father’s factory. Now, age 57, he manages the Fratelli Tanfoglio firearms factory in Gardone Val Trompia, in northern Italy. Strolling down the streets of this small town, you’ll see small arms manufactories everywhere and signs saying ARMI, FUCILI, CARTUCCE or just plain GUNS. Gardone (pop. 12,000) has already been sustained by the arms industry for 500 years in the mountains that provide a winning combination of iron ore, wood and hydroelectric power. It has roughly 80 companies, ranging from small-scale family manufacturers of hunting rifles to the world-famous Beretta.
Tanfoglio pistols, highly esteemed by shooting enthusiasts, have become a benchmark for firearms experts. But in recent years, somewhere between 1500 and 2,000 Tanfoglio model GT 28 guns have been used to commit crimes in The Netherlands. This is a cheap alarm gun that has transformed into a firearm – in backstreet workshops in northern Portugal."

No extradition in weapons smuggling case: "Court overturns order to send Dane to India for trial
A court in Hillerød yesterday overturned an order to extradite accused weapons smuggler Niels Holck to India. Against the wishes of then justice minister Lene Espersen, the Justice Ministry decided in April to have Holck extradited upon the request of the Indian government.
Holck, 48, is accused of being part of a group that dropped five tonnes of weapons, including Kalashnikovs and sniper rifles, near the town of Purulia in West Bengal in 1995.
The aircraft used in the drop moved into Thai airspace but later re-entered Indian airspace and was forced to land. The crew and a British national were all captured but one man, alleged to be Holck, escaped to Nepal where he boarded a plane to Frankfurt."

Bail for an ex-felon in possession of a firearm in Los Angles is $35,000. In Las Vegas, that bail amount is a tenth of that, at $3,000

Police trying to raise bail amount for gun crime offenders - My News 3 - KSNV, Las Vegas, NV: "When it comes to guns and crime in southern Nevada, it can be an especially frightening relationship.

“We’re not talking about grandma’s .22-caliber semi-automatic,” Capt. Dave O’Leary of Metro Police’s Southeast Area Command says. “These are large, dangerous weapons.”

It’s the kind of weapons, he says, which the punishment doesn’t necessary fit the crime when comparing bail amounts here to those in neighboring California.

Former BART Cop Johannes Mehserle to be Sentenced for Oscar Grant Killing - uprisingradio.org: "four months ago, Johannes Mehserle, the former BART police officer who killed an unarmed black man named Oscar Grant, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. It was the first time in state history that a law enforcement officer has been charged with murder in the line of duty.
