Police trying to raise bail amount for gun crime offenders - My News 3 - KSNV, Las Vegas, NV: "When it comes to guns and crime in southern Nevada, it can be an especially frightening relationship.
“We’re not talking about grandma’s .22-caliber semi-automatic,” Capt. Dave O’Leary of Metro Police’s Southeast Area Command says. “These are large, dangerous weapons.”
It’s the kind of weapons, he says, which the punishment doesn’t necessary fit the crime when comparing bail amounts here to those in neighboring California.
Bail for an ex-felon in possession of a firearm in Los Angles is $35,000. In Las Vegas, that bail amount is a tenth of that, at $3,000."
