27-year-old Salinas man died on Friday, 12 days after he was shot in a drive-by shooting that injured two others in San Jose.San Jose police Officer Jermaine Thomas said Tuesday morning that Luciano Rivera Saldana Jr. was hospitalized after the Feb. 17 shooting on the 1400 block of Monterey Road, an area south of downtown San Jose.Saldana’s slaying was that city’s seventh homicide of 2008.At 2:18 a.m., Thomas said, emergency crews and officers responded to a report of gunfire to find Saldana and two others with multiple gunshot wounds. He did not know where the other two men reside. Thomas said witnesses told police the three men had been in a car traveling on Monterey Road near Alma Avenue when bullets fired from another vehicle struck them. The two who survived the incident were transported to a hospital, treated and released. It appears the three men were returning from a nightclub in downtown San Jose, Thomas said.“It’s unknown at this time,” he said, “but right now, (the shooting) doesn’t appear to be gang-related.”
