Carlos Hernandez was found dead inside his Dedham apartment

suspected rapist killed himself yesterday afternoon with cops at his door trying to get him to surrender, authorities said.Carlos Hernandez, 26, was found dead inside his Dedham apartment, where Dedham and Boston cops had converged to arrest him for a 2005 rape in downtown Boston, authorities said.“Numerous Dedham and Boston police officers had secured the area of the apartment and attempted to get Hernandez to surrender peacefully,” Norfolk District Attorney spokesman David Traub said in a statement. “While police were still at bay, water was observed running out of the apartment.”Traub said cops inserted a video camera into Hernandez’s home and saw him laying in a bathtub, where he appeared to be dead.Traub said the state medical examiner will determine Hernandez’s cause of death. He said Hernandez was alone inside the Presidents Way apartment when he died.Herandez was indicted in Suffolk Superior Court in July 2007 for aggravated rape, kidnapping, and assault. He defaulted on those warrants following his arraignment.In January 2005, Hernandez allegedly coaxed a woman into his car following a party on Warrenton Street. Once inside the vehicle, Hernandez allegedly held her there against her will and raped her, authorities said. He was linked to the crime by DNA evidence.
