The Powder Room in Powell was robbed of two handguns and now Central Ohio Crime Stoppers said the shooting range didn't do enough to stop the crime.

Surveillance video from the crime on Feb. 9 shows the suspect in a red T-shirt and gray sweatshirt renting two guns. He walked into the range and then left to go out to his car and didn't return.

The two guns taken were a Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun with serial number FNH951 and a Springfield XD9 9mm handgun with serial number #US926644.

Crime Stoppers named the theft the crime of the week, but then last week, one of the guns was used in a shootout with police.

An officer was hit in the shooting, but the bullet hit the officer's Taser and he wasn't injured.

The theft and shooting has led to questioning of the Powder Room's gun rental policy.

These movements have come under scrutiny amid revelations that ATF investigators delayed for months the arrests of suspected cartel gun buyers, allowing the flow of hundreds of weapons to Mexico in the hope of catching bigger buyers. The policy has outraged many agents and prompted a Senate investigation.

25-year-old Savannah man was arrested Sunday night after he pointed a gun at a Savannah-Chatham police officer and resisted arrest.

Eric Holmes, of the 300 block of West 35th Street, was spotted by metro officers about 6 p.m. in the 1800 block of Montgomery Street after it was reported he was in possession of a firearm, according to a metro police report.

The officers approached the suspect near the intersection of 35th and Montgomery streets when Holmes — who, according to the report, is on probation — ran toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. While running, the report said, Holmes removed a revolver from inside his clothing and turned around and pointed it in the direction of one of the officers in pursuit.

When the suspect reached the west end of MLK Boulevard, he turned and pointed the weapon directly at an officer, the report said.

The officer also drew his weapon and aimed at Holmes, who turned and fell to the ground, dropping the revolver.

The officer was able to apprehend Holmes while he was on the ground, the report said, but the suspect resisted arrest.

Little was later charged on one count of smuggling under the Customs Act, and other Criminal Code charges relating to possession of a firearm and occupying a motor vehicle in which there was a firearm.
On October 4, 2010, Little was again arrested and this time pled guilty to a second count of weapons smuggling under the Customs Act and one count of occupying a motor vehicle in which he knew there were firearms, in breach of the Criminal Code

Gang shooting witnessed by kids getting off school bus - Chicago Sun-Times: "Three northwest suburban gang members allegedly beat and shot at a man Wednesday afternoon in plain view of students getting off a school bus and parents waiting to pick them up.

Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Prospect Height police were called to the 600 block of Piper Lane for shots fired and numerous people fighting. Officers from Prospect Heights, Mount Prospect and Wheeling responded.

By the time officers arrived, the offenders had fled, but witnesses said three young men were beating another man and several gunshots had been heard. A nearby school bus was discharging students, and they, along with several parents, witnessed the shooting, a release from police said.

The victim told police three offenders had flashed gang signs as they entered the development complex. When one said he didn’t belong to a gang, the three threw a beer can into his car and began to hit the victim.

He freed himself and was able to drive away, when one of the offenders fired shots at the victim’s vehicle. The victims and witnesses provided a description of the offenders."

Drug busts and gun crime spiral - Bermuda Sun... Beyond the Headlines - Hamilton, Bermuda: "Gun crime and drugs seizures reached record heights in 2010, according to the latest police statistics.
Last year seven men were shot dead and a further 29 were injured as a result of gunfire.

Detectives dealt with a total of 70 confirmed firearm incidents, which was nearly double the previous year’s figure.

In the last three months of 2010, officers seized $21.4 million worth of drugs – which included a 318kg cannabis haul on board a vessel heading for Bermuda.

For the year, a record total of $29.5 million worth of drugs was seized across the island.

Today Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva told a press conference that crime overall had decreased by more than 14 per cent in 2010 compared to 2009.

And he said there had been 193 fewer offences in the fourth quarter of 2010 compared to the third quarter of the same year.

Mr. DeSilva added: “There were 4,575 offences for the whole of 2010, making 2010 the lowest yearly figure from comparative records available.”"

Beyond the Headlines - Hamilton, Bermuda: "28-year-old Pembroke man suspected of possession of a firearm was remanded in custody without charge this afternoon as police used tough new anti-gun-crime laws to allow them more time to investigate the case.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons was arrested on Saturday after police raided a home in the St Monica's area and seized a loaded gun, cocaine, cannabis and cash.

He appeared at Supreme Court no 3, amid tight security this afternoon. Police were granted permission to keep him in custody for a further 14 days as they await the results of forensic tests.

Police previously had 72 hours to charge or release those arrested for firearms offences.

But under new legislation passed in June, they can now apply for a warrant of detention to hold them for an extra 14 days and make a second application for a further 14-day extension."
