Tucson police name gang shooting victim - KGUN 9 On Your Side, Tucson News, Weather & Sports: "One man was killed and two others were injured in a gang-related gunfight Saturday night on Dodge Boulevard near Grant Road. Tucson Police Sgt. Fabian Pacheco said Sunday morning police were called to Mountain Shadows apartments at 2430 N. Dodge Boulevard at 10:58 p.m. Saturday.
The shooting victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has been identified as James S. Gonzales, 24 The other two shooting victims are 20 and 22 years old.
Pacheco described what happened:
Rival gangs were partying at adjacent apartments Saturday night when 'hurtful things were said' and an altercation made its way out into the parking lot. Each side of the dispute was armed and there was an exchange of gunfire.
'Numerous shots' were fired and one man died at the scene, in the parking lot.
Two other men had non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals. Their conditions on Sunday were not available.
Gang detectives were at the homicide scene since early Sunday morning"

In one incident, police believe the two men injured are brothers.
That shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of N. 38th St., according to the Milwaukee Police Department. Police found a 20-year-old man who had a gunshot wound to his back and an injury to his right hand and a 21-year-old man who had received a gunshot wound to his back.
Both men were taken to a hospital, and police don't know their conditions.
In an earlier incident, a 24-year-old man was shot in the abdomen around 9 p.m. as he stood on a porch in the 1900 block of W. Arrow St. The victim said he's a member of a street gang and his assailants drove past the porch and shouted gang chants before firing shots at him, police said."

The police found Mr. Pollard hiding under his bed in an apartment on Lincoln Place in Crown Heights that he shared with his sister, law enforcement authorities said. Officers seized a 9-millimeter handgun at the apartment, Mr. Kelly said.
Mr. Pollard was charged with attempted murder, assault and other charges in connection with the October shooting, in which he is accused of shooting a 17-year-old acquaintance three times, paralyzing him from the waist down, the Brooklyn district attorney’s office said."

Six accused in gun smuggling ring sentenced in AZ: "Six men accused of buying guns as 'straw buyers' for a ring that smuggled weapons into Mexico were sentenced this week in federal court in Phoenix.
Prosecutors say three men were sentenced Tuesday to six months of home arrest, one received two months in prison and another got three months in prison. The sixth man was sentenced to three years of probation.
The six men bought a combined 13 guns for the ring. Six others were charged in the ring. The status of those prosecutions was unavailable because the cases are sealed.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement estimated that the ring smuggled about 200 assault rifles into Mexico. Authorities say many of the guns used in Mexico's drug war were bought in the United States and smuggled into Mexico."

Williams just recently got out of prison after facing an 18-month sentence following a January 2009 conviction for delivery of cocaine, court records show.
Police say Williams is also responsible for two other shootings that occurred days before the homicide.
He's accused of firing gunshots into a house on March 19 in the 8500 block of Southeast Brooklyn. In that shooting, he's accused of walking up to the front door of a home and firing blindly through it. An 11-year-old boy was inside the home, walking down an internal staircase when the shots whizzed through the front door, but no one was hit, police said."

Cops have mountain to climb: "Gun crime has become rife and police are struggling to cope with a caseload that includes 14 unsolved murders and 21 attempted murders or shooting investigations.
Half of the unsolved killings are gang-related shootings and have taken place in the last 12 months.
Commissioner Michael DeSilva admitted the Serious Crime Unit was not designed to handle its current workload.
As a result, 14 members of staff from the U.K. - including retired police officers, investigators and analysts - will bolster the unit over the coming months.The first batch of support officers is already in place. They will help review older cases such as the Gleen Wolffe, Shaundae Jones, Jason Lightbourne, Marcus Gibbings and Shaki Crockwell murders and look for new lines of inquiries."

Prosecutors say even though no one was hit by the gunfire, De la Torre received the decade-long sentence because of his admission it was gang-related.
Two other Watsonville teens who also had pleaded guilty to taking part in the shooting are scheduled to be sentenced May 6."
