Driver of a minivan filled with children heading down Columbia Road in Roxbury yesterday was shot in the leg by a man who opened fire on a group of people, police said.The man, whom police would not identify, was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment of an injury that was not life threatening. An undisclosed number of children were in the red 1997 Dodge Caravan when it was hit, but they were not injured.The man was struck by one of a number of bullets sprayed by the shooter at a group of people shortly after 8 p.m., in the area of 250 Columbia Rd., at the corner of Devon Street. It was not clear last night if any shots had come from the group.
Several businesses on the street were hit as well.
A worker at Burritos Pizzeria was nearly struck by a bullet that tore through the front window and into the wall behind the stove in the kitchen."When I heard the shots, I went down to the floor," said Jose M. Yanes, 25, who was the only person in the pizza shop at the time.Another bullet was lodged in facade of Preparations Marketplace.Police had set up at least three crime scenes: one on each side of the area around 250 Columbia Rd., where detectives collected bullet casings; and the other at the corner of Columbia Road and Intervale Street, a block away, where the van stopped after it was hit."It's dangerous here, all along Columbia Road it's dangerous," said one woman, who asked that her name not be used because she lives in the neighborhood and feared for her safety.
The shooting occurred just outside the Deliverance Temple Worship Center, which was holding a service at the time. Worshippers said they heard gunshots but did not see the shooting.The area has been the center of several shootings in recent weeks.
On July 9, a 25-year-old man was shot on Devon Street, just a block away. In that case, police charged William Terrell Hart, 22, of Brockton with assault with intent to murder, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Later that same night, three teenagers were shot less than a mile away in a case that remains unsolved. The victims in those shootings suffered injuries that were not life threatening.

Gary Nelson said that Douglas Cox had recently purchased the weapon — a near replica of a Colt .45 — with plans to rob the Wells Fargo Bank branch in West Seattle. After his arrest Tuesday, Palmer told police that Cox told him that he refused to be caught by police, Nelson said.
Despite repeated warnings to surrender, police say, Cox displayed a handgun, prompting three Seattle police officers and one King County sheriff's deputy to pump numerous gunshots into a Jeep Cherokee the men used in the robbery.Assistant Police Chief Nick Metz said today that officers fired 15 shots and Cox was struck up to five times in the head and neck.Cox was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition this morning. Metz identified the officers who fired their weapons as: Seattle police Sgt. Joseph Bauer, 45; Seattle Police Officer Jeff Geohagan, 37; and Seattle Police Officer Chriseley Lang, 46. King County sheriff's Deputy William Kennemer, 40, also fired. Crystal Lake woman faces a felony charge after allegedly shooting a handgun at the basement ceiling during an argument, police said.Police responded to a domestic dispute at 4518 David Lane late Wednesday and charged resident Tina L. Edinger, 47, with aggravated discharge of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of a firearm without a valid ownership card.Lt. Andrew Zinke of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said she was taken into custody without incident, and police recovered the firearm and the bullet from the home, Zinke said.
Edinger posted 10 percent of her $60,000 bond Thursday. Her next court date is Thursday, July 10.

"What we understand to be local people came into the camp, got past the security guard and made some noise, I understand they took money from a number of people," Ms Pattison said."It's come through that Darren was protecting Rebecka, his partner, and others. [The killing] was not planned, it was a tragic outcome of the robbery.
"Rebecka's upset but very strong."Mr Stratti's brother, Daniel, 34, said Ms Delforce and Mr Stratti had been lying in their room at night when a light shone through their window and they heard a number of men outside."Rebecka Delforce called out 'Whose that?' A voice said 'It's security.' She looked at my brother and said 'That's not security's voice'," Daniel Stratti said.A Masai warrior usually guarded the room, he said.Darren Stratti then asked the men what they wanted, and they had demanded money. That day, about $6000 for building materials had been placed in a safe in Mr Stratti's room.Realising that they would be harassed again if they gave in to the demands, Mr Stratti had told the men to go away, Daniel Stratti said."He told Rebecka to hop under the bed and shortly after that a couple of shots were fired and one went through wall into my brother's chest," he said
The men busted through the door, struck Ms Delforce on the back of legs with an axe handle, and took the money in the safe, Daniel Stratti said.He said Mr Stratti and Ms Delforce then travelled in a ute along dirt tracks to a hospital at a nearby township. Unfortunately, it was not equipped to treat Mr Stratti, and neither was the next hospital they went to.Mr Stratti underwent surgery at the third hospital, but died a short time later.

Arrested for allegedly carrying a concealed 9-mm handgun to a Bloods street gang member's funeral in Roosevelt is due in court Tuesday on a weapons charge, court records show.In the Friday arrest of Darnell Snell, 25, undercover police detectives at the funeral noticed that Snell kept adjusting an object in his waistband -- an object that looked like a handgun, police said.The detectives closed in on Snell, of 93 North 17th St., Wyandanch, and arrested him on a weapons possession charge after they found a loaded 9-mm handgun in his waistband, police said.
Snell was arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead, on Saturday before Judge Rhonda Fischer, who set bail at $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash. As of Monday, Snell had not posted bail, court records showed.The Friday arrest came after Nassau police sent undercover Bureau of Special Operations officers to the area of St. Francis and Frederick avenues for an intensive patrol during the Bloods gang member's funeral.
One of the officers saw Snell "adjusting what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband. After seeing the defendant adjust his waistband a second time," officers moved in and arrested Snell without incident, a police report said

Arrested Terrance M. Jackson, a 19 year old male who resides in the unit block of Seminole Avenue in Claymont, DE. He has been charged with multiple drug and weapon offenses after he fought with an officer and attempted to remove his weapon from his holster. Jackson was later found to be in possession of over 10 grams of crack cocaine, marijuana and a loaded .32 caliber revolver.
On Sunday afternoon, Corporal John Schlosser received information from a concerned citizen regarding a male subject known as “T” who was riding a bicycle and selling cocaine in the area of Commonwealth Avenue in the community of Overlook Colony. At 7:423 p.m., Schlosser responded to the location and observed the subject riding his bike on W. Brandywine Avenue. He then activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the cyclist who immediately tried to outrun the police car.
Having no luck with eluding the officer on the bike, the cyclist attempted to run off, not knowing that Corporal Schlosser is an accomplished long distance runner. Schlosser was able to chase down the subject and tackle him on Philadelphia Pike near Franklin Avenue. The subject then assaulted the officer and attempted to remove the officer’s weapon without success. Two concerned bystanders, who witnessed the chase and subsequent struggle, assisted the officer by holding the subject down as he was handcuffed. The subject was found to be in possession of 10.1 grams of crack cocaine, 1.5 grams of marijuana, and a loaded .32 caliber handgun (with an obliterated serial number).Jackson has been charged with the following offenses: trafficking cocaine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with the intent to deliver cocaine, attempting to remove a firearm of a law enforcement officer, assault in the second degree on a law enforcement officer, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, possession of drugs within a school safe zone, possession of a weapon within a school safe zone, resisting arrest with force, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, disregarding an officer’s signal, criminal mischief (for damaging the officer’s uniform), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic offenses. He has been arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Prison after failing to post $74,515 secured bail.

The woman told police that she confronted Willie Andrews, 24, in a bedroom of his apartment on Sunday night, according to the Sun Chronicle. She said that Andrews was waving the gun and that it touched her temple, the newspaper reported.
The woman called 911, and when police arrived, Andrews allowed police to search his car. Police did not find a gun. The woman took her child to a hotel, police said.
Early Monday morning, police saw Andrews talking to the woman in the hotel parking lot. She told police that she was scared because he "threatened to shoot her in the past."Andrews was later arrested at his apartment and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.The New England Patriots released a statement late Monday saying the team takes the conduct of its players "very seriously."Earlier this year, Andrews was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after police allegedly found him with a half-pound of marijuana.
